Found. Wool alforja 003

An antique heavy woven wool saddle bag with hand overlocked edges and hand embroidered initials, E.R. The wool is possibly mixed with hemp due to its weight and hand feel. Originating from Salamanca in Spain these pieces are believed to have belonged to a cow herder and would have been hung over the back of the horse behind the saddle to carry supplies. This piece is made from a continuous piece of fabric assembled to create two pouches, one at either end.

Each alforja is handmade and unique. These pieces are not new and therefore will have signs of a previous life. Any particular markings will be noted in the description.
